Cloud Computing with iBEM

Using the current Wikipedia definition, Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them.

The concept incorporates

infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS) as well as other recent technology trends which have the common theme of reliance on the Internet for satisfying the computing needs of the users.

Because the BarControl Enterprise Manager solution is completely thin client, and browser based, it naturally lends itself to the evolution of cloud computing. Starting with iBEM 2010 World Edition, BarControl is on the final testing stages of providing an SaaS version of the application.

Since BarControl’s iBEM software was developed for a truly portable, world class back end environment from the beginning, this adaptation is more an issue of pricing and packaging than of development. iBEM is developed in Java, it runs on a variety of web servers and operating systems – typically Apache on Unix at the enterprise level – and support top end databases like Oracle and IBM DB2. The current backend platform currently being assembled for our SaaS solution is the Oracle 11g database.
